On #WorldAutismAwarenessWeek, we at CodeX wanted to share some facts about Autism and what personally inspired CodeX to become a social enterprise that specifically helps children with Autism.
CodeX is a social enterprise aiming to inspire young people with autism by teaching them to code. It was set up over 2 years ago in January 2017, as we wanted to tackle the shocking statistic that only 16% of individuals with autism are in paid employment.
only 16% of individuals with autism are in paid employment.
Many people with autism have intense and highly-focused interests, often from a fairly young age, so we wanted to instil the importance of programming and coding at an impressionable age for young people with autism with the hope that they’d not only channel their interest into coding but they’d also use this valuable skill as a way to improve their employability in the future.
Since our launch, we’ve run 3 specialised courses in 2 different schools within Nottingham, and we have also provided individual lesson for children with autism, independent of the schools we work with.
We continually strive to impact as many children and young adults with autism as possible, and encourage both schools and parents to reach out to us to give their students and children an opportunity to utilise their remarkable and unique abilities in an enjoyable way.
